The building of the village hall was a truly local enterprise as the work was carried out by workmen from the estate, and all the materials from bricks and sand to stones and tiles, as well as oak, chestnut and sycamore timbers were supplied by the estate.

The timber framed hall was built using traditional methods whereby the joints were secured by large wooden pegs. When first built the hall included slipper baths for local residents and a projection room for silent films.
